As well you know I believe adventure is possible anywhere so I can't wholly agree with Nesbit's quote but I thought it might prove food for thought.

Poppycock!

London is full of trees and woods and waters - Hyde Park, St James Park, Battersea Park, Regents Park right in the centre of town packed full of lakes and duck ponds, fields for running around and flying kites. Within city limits you've got places like Richmond Park, Kew Gardens, Greenwich Park, Wimbledon Common, London Wetlands Centre, Fairlop Waters and dozens of commons and flats. Out a bit further to Epping Forest and Lea Valley. To find sand you probably will have to hop no a train, but it's only an hour to Brighton or Suothend.

Also, it was probably different at the turn of the last century, but today there's plenty of cheap or even free way to partake of "theaters, and entertainments and things".

"nearly everything in London is the wrong sort of shape—all straight lines and flat streets" - except for the bloody great wiggling river running straight through the middle of it. Anyone who's had the misfortune of trying to navigate to a new destination without a map in London will attest to the lack of straight lines.

People that claim to not be able to find trees and open spaces in London just aren't trying hard enough!

Hiya,

You have some previous posts about the Inner Flame climbing event.

Can these be removed as they contain my personal number and I am no longer connected with Inner Flame?

I do appreciate your immediate action on this.

Thanks!

Interestingly enough, I have also used the list of emotions approach but I've never thought to tie it into the verbs.

I like the idea of aiding transfer through this.

Maybe ask people to list "useful" verbs and "damaging" verbs and to take that list back to the workplace with the aim of prompting people to think about about their behavior and in which category it falls.

It looks like a fast, energising, inclusive method in which it is impossible to be wrong. I wonder where things go from here?

Maybe a list of feelings - and then lines joining feelings to the verbs (if they were associated during the event).

Or maybe a list of adverbs connected to the verbs (if they were associated during the event).

Or maybe a jump straight to the workplace and which words are associated most strongly with work and which not... if you also want to review work experience - but maybe that comes later?

I reckon 2-3 pages should be plenty. There is no right or wrong answer though, but try removing older information if you need to.

The simple phrase "Do you fancy a cup of tea" is a wonderfully powerful one, it immediately makes friends and smooths over rough edges. Making sure that there's something in the office kitchen for everyone to drink, be it decaf coffee, orange squash, or just filtered water means everyone is included.

It can have practical difficulties though, I worked in an office where everyone had epically complicated, varying tea preferences and I chose not to get involved in the tea circles 'cos it was so complicated.
A simple solution to that is to put up a white board or something in the kitchen where people can describe how they take their beverages. Even if someone has three different drinks at least they can just say "peppermint tea" instead of "the Twinings peppermint, leave the tea bag in and add half cold water on the top".

Of course then you have the issue of washing up... to every solution there is an additional problem ;0)

I'm still laughing after sliding across the road in Holyhead when my bike decided to go from under me as I turned into the one-way system, scraping my helmet in the process - lucky it wasn't my head!

It seems daft but it made me happy to cycle back having 'gone for it'! Evening up the scars on my hips - made me feel a 'real' cyclist!!! Exciting stuff, but I'm still recovering my nerve for cornering fast, especially in the wet.
